E-Commerce Websites
People are doing more and more of their shopping online, and e-commerce represents over 25% of all retail sales in the UK.
Third party platforms may be useful for occasional sales online, but you’re reliant on them to display and promote your products, and hand over payment less their commision. The advantage of your own web shop is that it puts you in control of your online sales, and you can build your customer base and reputation.
I can build an online shop for you with WordPress and the WooCommerce plugin. WooCommerce has more than 5 million active installations, and is very popular with users.
Running a WooCommerce Shop
Once your shop is set up, you upload product details and images, and set your prices and postage rates. It’s easy to discount a product for a set amount of time.
You can choose a payment gateway – PayPal, Stripe, or WooCommerce Payments.
You’re notified by email when a customer makes a purchase, and you simply have to post or deliver the item to your customer.
Popularity of WooCommerce
WooCommerce is very popular with its users.
I have been using WooCommerce since 2013 and I love the way it has evolved over the years. I believe WooCommerce is still the best eCommerce solution out there, considering its customizability as well as cost effectiveness.

Rates
Rates are from £395 for a small e-commerce website, including adding the first 5 products.
Other costs include:
- your domain name (typically £10 to £20 per year) and
- hosting. I recommend a reliable UK web host, PAC Webhosting

Note: I’m happy to build an online shop for a small business. For larger commercial sites, I suggest using a bigger web development agency.
